7 months out!
Another whole month has passed & I have to say that in this 6th month of recovering from a shoulder replacement I have really noticed a difference! 🙌🏻
I have added in LOTS more stuff with working out. Almost all dumbbells, but pressing over head, doing DB clean and jerks/snatches/thrusters, doing full burpees, and working into modified pull-up and handstand work. I'm not sure if you saw on IG or not but.....I did a strict pull-up!!!!!! (wanna see it?! Click here! ). That was actually pretty exciting! As I had been working more and more stuff (like I already said) and just felt like I was getting to the point I could try one! We did a photoshoot at the gym for Propello Life and thought what a great opportunity to try one with friends around and even got it captured on video! Really I did 2...the 2nd one was harder and hurt some, so I probably am not really ready to do them frequently, but sure was nice to know I could!
I started doing some Street Parking workouts this month...and I think that has been helpful for the wanting to try some new things! I have mentioned it before, but motivation can be hard! Learning to fitness for the sake of fitness and not competition is something I still work through almost everyday. I tend to be hard on myself with workouts too....my head gets very messy....mostly in comparison to where I was pre shoulder falling apart. I know it's just not where I am now...but that doesn't mean it isn't hard to work through...but finally feel like I am on a better path to getting there. Probably something I will write more about......
My motion is still lacking some, but improving. I have the biggest problem with external rotation- so getting into a front or back rack has not been possible. I have seen some good improvement in the past week or so with flexion though - I think because I have been putting in more strength work....but this past week I have also given it some more rest. Still needs that! It needs time to still heal. I had hit a point about a week ago it was sore most of the time and thought that maybe I had just done a little too much...so cut back and just rested this week....alot less sore and feels like its moving better! Hooray!
This month we also finished our sun room at the house! I was able to paint with my right hand overhead...which was a big problem last summer, so I would say that is excellent improvement from before surgery! I also carried a gigantic plant all by myself...so feeling like I am able to do some harder things on my own again.
I consider this month a big win....physically and mentally! Excited to see what this shoulder can do now that we are in the 2nd half of the "give it a year" mark! Stay tuned! I think this might get more exciting 😉
